Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique heat therapy that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health.
Moxibustion is used in different forms. It is burned directly on the skin to target a focused point. It is placed on top of the needles to penetrate heat down the needles. It is placed inside of a “moxa box” or “moxa pot” that can cover a larger area like the abdomen or low back. It also comes in a stick form that is held a couple inches away from the skin and can be moved from one area to another.
